My new hound

After searching for months and months for the right rescue dog to adopt, we finally found one two weeks ago. (November 2010)

I needed a dog that was good with cats, was great with other dogs and that could do endless amounts of dog walking. I'd been searching all the rehoming sites for months and none of the dogs ticked all three boxes, and if they did they lived on the other side of the UK.

Finally, I spotted what looked like our perfect dog on a dogs blog. He was a spanish Podenco hound cross that had recently been transported over from a Spanish animal shelter and fostered in Birmingham with two other dogs and two cats. He'd spent the first three years of his life chained up in a back garden and spent another year in the shelter after being rescued by a vet. He felt like a proper rescue case and I instinctively felt that he was the dog for us.

Three days and many emails and calls to the charity arranging homechecks later we traveled to Birmingham to meet him and ended up bringing him home.

No sooner had we arrived in Bristol we collected some dogs and took him on a dog walk!

He has settled in amazingly well and taking everything in his stride. Especially considering the life he has had. He's a blank canvas so we are having to teach him everything, even sit! But he is picking things up very quickly and has even started to walk off the lead as his recall is about 80%. He gets on well with all dogs, big, small, male or female.

We have named him Denzel.

We adopted him through: SOS Animals

*Denzel update : He has now settled into his 'dog walker's dog' role and takes his job very seriously! He earns his keep by chasing dogs, being chased by dogs and leading the way when exploring Ashton Court. Denzel gets on well with everyone and would love it if your dog came and joined in the fun too!!*
